AVA

Ava is 13 and is spending the summer with her mother on the French Atlantic coast when she learns that she will lose her sight sooner than expected. Her mother decides to act as if everything were normal and wants to have the best summer ever. Ava tackles the problem in her own way: she steals a large black dog belonging to a young man on the run. In “Ava” (France 2017), Léa Mysius tells the story of a girl who, faced with impending blindness, sharpens her remaining senses and begins to explore her own body and those of others.

“Ava” is Mysius’ feature debut and premiered in the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes in 2017, where it won the Prix SACD. The film was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2017 in the French Night section.
