Scene from Home

Synopsis

Kevin has just been released from juvenile detention. Since things no longer work at home, he moves in with his aunt Sonja and uncle Willem – and into the life of his cousin Sammy and his group of friends. Among them is John, whose mother suffers from severe psychiatric disorders and controls and abuses her son. What the teenagers know among themselves and what the adults refuse to see drift further and further apart, until a violent escalation draws all three boys into an investigation. In “Home” (Belgium 2016), Fien Troch tells of the silence between teenagers and adults.

The Dutch-language film premiered in Venice in September 2016, where Troch won the award for best director in the Orizzonti section. In Belgium, the André Cavens critics’ award and the Magritte for best Flemish film followed. In 2017, “Home” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin.
