About the festival

Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Locarno, Toronto, San Sebastián: the outstanding films of any given year premiere there, scattered across the globe and across the calendar. Many of them never reach a German cinema. No distributor, no release, no second chance.

Around the World in 14 Films brings fourteen of them to Berlin. Fourteen films from fourteen countries — from Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe — every December, as Berlin or German premieres. Alongside them come the specials: homages, the Berlinale Spotlight of the World Cinema Fund, new German cinema. The films screen in three cinemas in three neighbourhoods: Kino in der KulturBrauerei, delphi LUX and Neues Off. At the close, a jury awards the BASIS Berlin Postproduction Award for best direction.

The festival is carried by an association, not an institution: by people who love cinema, and by partners who stand behind it.
