What is Around the World in 14 Films?
Around the World in 14 Films is a film festival in Berlin. Every year since 2006 it has shown fourteen films from fourteen countries, selected from the programmes of Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Locarno, Toronto and San Sebastián, as Berlin or German premieres. Every first screening is introduced by a patron. The festival calls itself “the festival of festivals”.

Where does the festival take place?
In three Berlin cinemas in three neighbourhoods: Kino in der KulturBrauerei (Prenzlauer Berg), Delphi Lux (Charlottenburg), Neues Off (Neukölln). The festival centre is the Kino in der KulturBrauerei. Addresses, directions and access are on the cinemas page.
How are the films selected?
The programme is curated. From the premieres of the major festivals – Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Locarno, Toronto, San Sebastián – the festival picks fourteen films from fourteen countries, from Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. Many of them have no German distributor and would otherwise never reach a German cinema. Alongside them come the specials: homages, the Berlinale Spotlight of the World Cinema Fund, and new German cinema.
What are film patrons?
Every first screening is introduced by a patron: directors, actors and others from German cinema who present the film to the audience before it starts. Every patron since 2006 is listed in the index on this website.
Where can I get tickets?
Tickets are available once advance sales open, which the festival announces under News and in the newsletter. As long as the programme of the 21st edition is unpublished, there are no tickets yet.
What language are the films shown in?
The films are shown in their original version with subtitles, mostly English, some German. The language version is given for each film on its own page.
Which award is given?
At the close of the festival, a jury awards the BASIS Berlin Postproduction Award for best direction.

Around the World in 14 Films e.V., a registered non-profit association based in Berlin. It is directed by Bernhard Karl and Susanne Bieger. The festival is carried by the members of its supporters’ association and by partners.
