LA DANZA DE LA REALIDAD

Tocopilla, a small town on the Chilean coast. Young Alejandro grows up as the son of Jewish-Ukrainian immigrants, between a strict, communist father who wants to raise him into a hard man, and a loving but weak mother. The town does not understand the family’s origins, and the boy searches for his own path within this narrowness. In “La danza de la realidad” (Chile, 2013), Alejandro Jodorowsky returns to the places of his childhood and retells them – as a memory that does not hold to what actually happened.

It is Jodorowsky’s first film in 23 years: a surreal autobiography that links his own life with politics and poetry, half musical, half fantasy, with the exaggeration and tableaux for which his cinema is known. The film premiered at Cannes in 2013 in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. “La danza de la realidad” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013.
