THE PERVERT'S GUIDE TO IDEOLOGY

Slavoj Žižek sits in Travis Bickle’s room, stands in the alley from “They Live”, and explains how ideology works: not as a lie one can see through, but as that which shapes our desires. As in its predecessor “The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema” (2006), Fiennes places the Slovenian philosopher in reconstructed sets from the films he discusses; this time it is less about cinema than about what we believe and why. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012. “The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013.
