LE CAPITAL
Synopsis
When the CEO of the Parisian Phenix Bank falls ill, Marc Tourneuil (Gad Elmaleh) rises to the top. No sooner in office than he entrenches his position by every means available: against his own board, against the workforce, and against an American hedge fund (Gabriel Byrne) that wants to take over the bank. What was meant as a stopgap solution turns into a game of power in which Tourneuil sheds his scruples piece by piece. “Le Capital” by Costa-Gavras (France, 2012) is based on the novel by Stéphane Osmont.
Costa-Gavras tells the story of the 2008 banking crisis as a thriller about ambition, greed and deception in international finance – with Gad Elmaleh, better known as a comedian, in the lead role. The film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012. “Le Capital” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013.
