Synopsis
Eva is fifteen, the ugly duckling of a middle-class family in which everyone is preoccupied with themselves and no one pays her any attention. Then Veit moves in, the German exchange student she invited – handsome, friendly, unshakeable. In two weeks he changes everyone in the house: father Evert, mother Etty, who discovers meditation, brother Erwin, who discovers his sexuality, and Eva herself. Ten Horn’s debut transplants the constellation of Pasolini’s “Teorema” into a Dutch suburb and tells it as a dry comedy. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012; Variety subsequently included the director in its list of ten European directors to watch. “The Deflowering of Eva van End” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013.
