INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS
Synopsis
New York, February 1961. Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) is a folk singer in Greenwich Village. His duo partner has taken his own life, his solo album isn’t selling, he has no money, and he sleeps on the sofas of friends and acquaintances. When the Gorfeins’ cat slips out as he leaves their apartment, he finds himself saddled with an animal for the rest of the week too. “Inside Llewyn Davis” by Joel and Ethan Coen (USA, 2013) follows him for a week through clubs, other people’s apartments and a drive to Chicago, where he hopes to audition for a producer.
Loosely inspired by the life of the folk musician Dave Van Ronk and his memoir “The Mayor of MacDougal Street”, with Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake in supporting roles. The film has essentially no plot, said Joel Coen – hence the cat. It won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2013. “Inside Llewyn Davis” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013 in the Opening Night section.
