Synopsis

Amin Jaafari is an Arab Israeli, a respected surgeon in Tel Aviv, with Jewish friends and a career that has earned him the city’s recognition. After a bombing at a restaurant kills nineteen people, the police tell him that his wife was the bomber. Amin rejects this – until a letter from his wife confirms her act. To understand how her intentions could have escaped him, he travels to the Palestinian territories and seeks out the people who recruited her. “The Attack” by Ziad Doueiri, 2012, based on the novel “Die Attentäterin” by Yasmina Khadra.

The Lebanese director Doueiri tells the conflict from the perspective of a man no longer at home on either side, and refuses the easy answer. “The Attack” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2013.
