Scene from Veni Vidi Vici

Synopsis

Amon Maynard (Laurence Rupp) is a billionaire, respected by all, and leads, with his wife Viktoria (Ursina Lardi), their two adopted children Coco and Bella and his biological daughter Paula, a life beyond reproach. He is a passionate hunter, but he doesn’t shoot animals – he shoots people, at random, in the open street, and the family’s wealth ensures there are no consequences. Paula narrates how her father, meanwhile, grows the family, takes over a company and breaks ground for a battery factory. “Veni Vidi Vici” by the Austrian directing duo Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann (Austria, 2024) is a satire about money that permits everything.

Hoesl and Niemann tell, with cold elegance and without moralising, of a class that robs, cheats and kills without anyone stopping it, leaving the question of why no one looks to the audience. The film premiered at Sundance 2024. It was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2024, in the Grandfilm Birthday Night section.
