SCHAUSTEINS LETZTER FILM
Synopsis
Every person has their own final film, in which the most important events of their life have been edited together – and only once they have seen it can they die. That is the premise of Christian Klandt’s short film “Schausteins letzter Film” (Germany 2008): Schaustein, an old cinema projectionist, cannot die because his final film has gone missing. What remains is the search for a reel that contains his own life, and a projection booth that has become a waiting room.
The 37-minute film was made at the “Konrad Wolf” Film University Babelsberg in Potsdam, from a screenplay by Christian Klandt and Christian von Aster; Horst Kaptur plays Schaustein alongside Claudia Jakobshagen, Michael Markfort and Manni Laudenbach. A fairy tale about cinema as memory. It premiered on 23 October 2008 at the Hof International Film Festival. “Schausteins letzter Film” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2008, in the Spezial Deutschland section.
