WORST CASE SCENARIO

Georg (Samuel Finzi) is a director who wants to shoot a comedy on a campsite in Gdańsk during the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, with his former girlfriend Olga as costume designer and a team that has come along out of sheer desperation. But everything is lacking: money, talent, commitment. The lead actor pulls out, the fans next door bellow, and Georg would rather talk about Fellini and Antonioni than see to his film. In “Worst Case Scenario” (Germany, 2014), Franz Müller tells the story of a shoot falling apart, drawing on his own experience: six weeks before shooting was due to begin on his planned football comedy, the funding collapsed despite promised support, and Müller travelled to Poland anyway with a small team.

Necessity turned into a film within a film, shot with little money on a real campsite full of real fans, half improvisation, half self-mockery of German auteur cinema. It premiered on 30 June 2014 at the Munich Film Festival. “Worst Case Scenario” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2014 in the Deutschland Spezial section.
