D and H are artists and a couple. For almost two decades they have lived in a modernist house in London that also serves as their studio; she works on performances, he is more of a conceptual artist. Now they have decided to sell the house, and the impending farewell sets in motion what had long stood still between the two of them: the question of how close they still are, what their work means for each other, and how life and art can be borne within the same rooms. Joanna Hogg casts “Exhibition”, her third feature film from the United Kingdom, from 2013, with Viv Albertine, once guitarist of the punk band The Slits, and the conceptual artist Liam Gillick; Tom Hiddleston plays the estate agent.

Hogg tells the story in long, static shots in which the house, with its glass surfaces, staircases and sliding walls, becomes the third main character. The film observes how two people reveal and conceal themselves within their rooms, and dispenses with explanations. It premiered in the International Competition in Locarno in 2013. “Exhibition” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2014 in the Senator British Night section.
