HISTORIAS EXTRAORDINARIAS

Three men, three stories that never touch. X witnesses a murder and hides out in a hotel room. H receives a commission whose purpose he never fully understands, and sets off. Z starts a new job and becomes obsessed with investigating the life of the man he is replacing – who has just died. Secret identities, missing persons, lost treasures, exotic animals and desperate criminals: “Historias extraordinarias” (Argentina 2008) by the Argentine director Mariano Llinás is a web of mysteries that spreads across the Argentine provinces.

The film runs 245 minutes and is divided into three acts of eighteen chapters each; the three narrative strands run in parallel without ever crossing. It is an experiment in storytelling that makes the pleasure of narrative itself its subject. The film premiered in 2008 at BAFICI in Buenos Aires, where it won two awards; in 2009 it screened in Rotterdam. That same year, “Historias extraordinarias” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin.
