MAN PUSH CART

Every morning before daybreak, Ahmad (Ahmad Razvi) pulls his food cart through the streets of Midtown Manhattan to sell coffee and bagels on his corner. In Pakistan he was a well-known rock singer; in New York he is a widower, and the family of his late wife, who blame him for her death, keep his young son away from him. Ahmad works long days, sells DVDs on the side, and meets a wealthy compatriot who knew him in his former life, and a young Spanish woman at the newspaper kiosk. Ramin Bahrani tells, in “Man Push Cart” (USA 2005), of the everyday life of an immigrant whose life moves in a circle of pushing, pulling and waiting.

Bahrani wrote, directed and produced the film; it was shot on the streets of Manhattan with a non-professional actor who had run a cart of his own. It premiered in Venice in 2005. “Man Push Cart” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2007.
