Scene from Anishoara

Synopsis

Anishoara is fifteen and lives with her grandfather Petru and her little brother Andrei in a village among the green hills of Moldova. “Anishoara” (2016) by Ana-Felicia Scutelnicu follows her through the last year of her childhood, arranged by season: in summer, harvesting melons with friends, she finds her first love; in autumn a strange German tourist unsettles everyday life; in winter she travels to the sea for the first time, at the side of the young man she has fallen for; in spring she waits for his return – which turns out differently than hoped.

The director Ana-Felicia Scutelnicu, born in Chişinău, made the film as her graduation project at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin, as a German-Moldovan co-production, with mostly non-professional actors and in an observational mode – a farewell to a rural world that is disappearing. It premiered in the New Directors competition in San Sebastián in 2016. “Anishoara” was shown at Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2016 in the German Night section.
