LE GRAND SOIR

Not (Benoît Poelvoorde) calls himself the oldest punk in Europe with a dog and lives on the street with that very dog. His half-brother Jean-Pierre (Albert Dupontel) has made something of himself, working as a salesman and functioning, until he no longer does: burnout, dismissal, and suddenly he too has nothing left. Not takes him under his wing and teaches him what a punk needs to know. Two brothers who had nothing to say to each other become a duo who proclaim for themselves the great evening, the “Grand Soir”, the revolt. “Le Grand Soir” by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern, France 2012.

Delépine and Kervern continue their social comedy, satire from the margins: anger without a programme, tenderness without occasion. The film screened at Cannes in 2012 in the Un Certain Regard section, where it received the jury’s special prize under Tim Roth; the dog Billy Bob won the Palm Dog’s Grand Jury Prize. The film closed Around the World in 14 Films in Berlin in 2012, in the Closing Night section.
