Neues Off

The Neues Off joined the Yorck Kinogruppe in 1979. Little was left of the cinema by then: the house had spent years as a porn cinema, and hardly anything remained of the row of cinemas the Hermannstraße once was.

With the takeover came a new name and an ambitious programme. The name Off was a statement — against the Kurfürstendamm, where most first runs played at the time.

That the auditorium gleams as it does today is owed to a thorough restoration in the late nineties. The addition to its name comes from it as well.
