VENI VIDI VICI

Grandfilm Birthday Night | Daniel Hose und Julia Niemann

“Veni Vidi Vici” is a provocative feature film that sharply illuminates the abysses of the rich and powerful and is a creative addition to the booming subgenre of ‘eat the rich’ films. It centers on multimillionaire Amon Maynard (Laurence Rupp), an unscrupulous investor who spends his free time hunting people. His butler Alfred, a former journalist, covers the tracks of his deeds. But behind the glamorous façade of luxury living, a darker side is revealed. At Amon's side is his wife Viktoria Maynard (Ursina Lardi), a brilliant lawyer who uses her knowledge to protect her husband from the consequences of his crimes. The fragile edifice of lies threatens to collapse, however, and the events are commented on by Amon's daughter Paula (Olivia Goschler), who is growing up in an environment where power and untouchability are taken for granted. “Veni Vidi Vici” is a deep black satire that could only come from Austria with its harshness and penetrating power. The film addresses the social injustices of the rich and confronts us with the bitter reality that the elites decide on the lives of the weaker members of society with impunity. The directing duo Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann have mastered the art of social satire. Their film is at times more evil and witty than similar works such as “Saltburn” or “Triangle of Sadness”. “Veni Vidi Vici” has conquered festivals worldwide, from Sundance to Rotterdam to Graz.
